Reverse Osmosis (RO) units are commonly installed to treat only drinking water. While there are whole house RO units, the most cost effective solution is to use RO units in conjunction with traditional water filtration and softening systems. Allowing the filter and softener to treat the water extends the life of the filtration media cartridges.

How do Filters Work?

Contaminated water enters the unit and passes through

the filtration media. Depending upon the specific contaminants and the type of media, a variety of processes occur causing the contaminants to remain suspended in the filtration media while the filtered water continues to flow to your faucets and appliances. Periodically, certain filtration media must be "regenerated", allowing the filtration media to continue performing.

How do Softeners Work?

As hard water passes through the resin beads in the softener, "hard" mineral ions are replaced by "soft" sodium ions. When the resin beads become saturated with mineral ions, the system automatically "regenerates", replacing the hard mineral ions with sodium ions from the brine tank. Salt is periodically added to the brine tank to provide sodium ions, but customers that have restricted sodium intake can use a non-sodium based product
